Hi everyone, I’d like to share with you one of my most memorable trips, which was a trip to the city of Granada, a city in the southern part of Spain. Granada is where a whole city was influenced by Arabic culture because of wars and interactions between Spanish and Arabic people a long time ago. I decided to visit the Alhambra palace, which is one of the greatest architectural wonders of Spain. People say this palace was left undamaged during wars because the beauty of the palace was astonishing. In front of the palace, there was a beautiful garden called Generalife. I was totally amazed by the incredible scenery. The fountains were running, and the pools reflected the beautiful flowers and trees in the garden. Later I found out that water meant life and richness to Arabic people in the Middle Ages. Their emphasis on water is expressed in the many water tunnels and fountains in the palace. Next to the garden were the Nasrid Palaces, which I thought were the most beautiful palaces I had ever seen. The rooms are delicately decorated with colorful works of art, wooden ceilings, and various patterns. After I finished the tour, I could understand why the palace wasn’t destroyed. In Spain, it is an absolute must to visit the Alhambra palace! I hope you will have a chance to go there.

Chris: I’m planning to visit South America this summer vacation. Since you’ve been there, where do you think I should go in South America?

Grace: There are many places to see, but I recommend Iguazu Falls. They were why I decided to go to Brazil. I can’t describe their beauty in words. You have to see them in person.

Chris: I’ve heard of Iguazu Falls. Why do you think they are famous?

Grace: It’s because they are the tallest and largest falls in the world.

Chris: Oh, I see. So, where exactly are they located?

Grace: They are located on the border between Argentina and Brazil. If you’re on the Brazilian side, you can take a helicopter or a boat to look around the falls.

Chris: What were you most impressed with?

Grace: Definitely the Devil’s Throat. It was as big and fantastic as the name sounds. The sight of large waterfalls and gleaming rainbows was incredible. Once you see this area, you will be totally amazed by its beauty.

Chris: I can’t wait to go there. Where else did you go?

Grace: Since I am a huge fan of football, São Paulo was a must-visit city. It was like the entire city went on vacation during big matches. There is even a football museum in São Paulo. This shows Brazilians’ great passion for football.

Chris: A football museum? That’s awesome! No wonder so many internationally famous football legends, like Pele, Ronaldo, and Ronaldinho, are Brazilians.

Grace: I know. This museum exhibits interesting things like some of the footballs used in the World Cup matches, pictures, and video of historical football matches. There’s even a whole room which is filled with the history of Brazilian football.

Chris: It sounds like Brazil is the perfect place to absorb the beauty of nature and the passion of football fans. I’m already excited!

Grace: Yes, Brazil is a great place. I hope you enjoy yourself there.

My family’s trip across Australia is going well. The land is very big, so we have experienced four seasons in just a week! This week, we felt very cold on snowy Blue Mountain, and I enjoyed a nice warm walk along the Sunshine Coast. And now we are sweating in Kakadu National Park, which is located in the north area of Australia. Kakadu National Park is a home to thousands of animals. We spent two days in the park. On the first day of our trip, we took a little cruise. It was a cruise on Yellow Water, which has a variety of wild animals, dramatic scenery, and ever-changing landscapes. We spotted more than twenty different species of birds and wild crocodiles in the river. Until this trip, I had only seen crocodiles in the zoo, so the sight of wild crocodiles made my jaw drop. The second day at Kakadu National Park was all about exploring Aboriginal rock art. The paintings of animals provide a fascinating record of Aboriginal life over thousands of years. Our guide told us that some of the oldest rock arts might be as much as 40,000 years old. We were impressed by the well preserved rock paintings. Also, some Aboriginals are still living in Kakadu and have kept their cultural traditions. After the trip, I learned to appreciate the beauty of nature and old traditions. Our next destination is Canberra, the capital city of Australia. I’ll keep you posted about my trip.

I'm currently on a flight to Denmark. I've never been there, and when my friend Camila invited me to visit her, I didn't hesitate. I first met Camila when she came to my school as an exchange student three years ago and she stayed with my family for two weeks. Ever since, she and I have been exchanging letters. I can't say I know a lot about Denmark, but I heard that it has been named the happiest country in the world several times, and I wondered why. I hope this trip will answer my question!

The first thing I noticed about Copenhagen was that all kinds of people were riding their bikes. People in business suits were biking to work, moms were carrying their children on bike trailers, and students were biking to school. When I mentioned this to Camila, she said that Copenhagen is world-famous for its biking culture. The city even has its own Cycling Embassy. I was surprised to learn that about 60% of Copenhageners ride their bikes to work or school every morning. In fact, Copenhagen offers almost 400 kilometers of designated bike lanes. It is no wonder the city is one of the greenest cities in the world. Camila and I decided to bike around the city like other Copenhageners. We passed by the harbor where some kids were taking a dip and people were enjoying the sun. When we got to the beach, I saw some things in the ocean that looked like windmills. Camila explained that they were actually wind turbines, and that we could go visit them if we wanted to. I absolutely loved the idea! We took a guided boat tour out to the turbines. We learned that they are part of Middelgrunden Offshore Wind Farm, which was installed in the year 2000. It produces enough energy to power about 3% of Copenhagen. Today the wind farm has become a symbol of Denmark's green transformation.

When I was young, I was a big fan of Hans Christian Andersen, a fairy tale writer famous for The Snow Queen, The Ugly Duckling and many other stories. So when I decided to visit Denmark, going to Andersen's hometown of Odense was one of my top priorities. In Odense, there are miles of red footprints on the ground to guide visitors between the various sites related to Andersen. We followed the footprints to the Hans Christian Andersen Museum, which is the place where the author was born. The large selection of Andersen's work presented in the museum's art room caught my eye. Until then, he had been just a famous fairy tale writer to me, but at the museum I realized that he was also a great visual artist. To Andersen, paper was not just a medium for the written word. Rather, it was a tool for expressing himself creatively. Throughout his life, Andersen wrote on, drew on, and cut shapes from paper.

I was lucky enough to stay at Camila's home with her family during my time in Denmark. One Saturday morning, while we were having breakfast, Camila and I talked about the places we had visited so far. "Sounds like you both have had a busy schedule. Why don't you take a day off and spend some hygge time?" Camila's mom suggested. Obviously, I was the only one who couldn't understand what she was talking about. I asked her what "hygge time" means. She laughed and said that it is something I need to figure out on my own and that it cannot be translated into a single word. I thought it meant doing something very special. However, it was not much different from a normal day-to-day routine. Camila's family and I sat around the table talking to each other, enjoying warm tea and sweet snacks. Our conversation was pleasant and the subjects were not controversial. There were a few scented candles, which made the atmosphere even calmer. Nothing seemed unusual, but there was still something special. I didn't know what to call it, but I felt very relaxed, happy and fulfilled. Later that day when I talked about this, Camila told me that I was feeling hygge. Hygge is one of the most important aspects of Danish culture. It is a philosophy. It is also a way of life that has helped Danes understand the importance of taking time to unwind, and slowing down the pace of life. In essence, hygge means creating a warm atmosphere and enjoying the good things in life with good people. There's nothing more hygge than sitting around a table, talking about the big and small things in life. Hearing Camila explain about hygge reminded me of the people I had seen in Copenhagen. People were riding their bikes, lying in the sunshine, and taking a dip in the harbor. I realized that all those people were having hygge time, and I thought to myself — maybe this is what makes Danes the happiest people in the world.

1번 지문(문항 번호 37번)

Since we know we can't completely eliminate our biases, we need to try to limit the harmful impacts they can have on the objectivity and rationality of our decisions and judgments. It is important that we are aware when one of our cognitive biases is activated and make a conscious choice to overcome that bias. We need to be aware of the impact the bias has on our decision making process and our life. Then we can choose an appropriate de‒biasing strategy to combat it. After we have implemented a strategy, we should check in again to see if it worked in the way we had hoped. If it did, we can move on and make an objective and informed decision. If it didn't, we can try the same strategy again or implement a new one until we are ready to make a rational judgment.

2번 지문(문항 번호 38번)

It is important to remember that computers can only carry out instructions that humans give them. Computers can process data accurately at far greater speeds than people can, yet they are limited in many respects ―most importantly, they lack common sense. However, combining the strengths of these machines with human strengths creates synergy. Synergy occurs when combined resources produce output that exceeds the sum of the outputs of the same resources employed separately. A computer works quickly and accurately; humans work relatively slowly and make mistakes. A computer cannot make independent decisions, however, or formulate steps for solving problems, unless programmed to do so by humans. Even with sophisticated artificial intelligence, which enables the computer to learn and then implement what it learns, the initial programming must be done by humans. Thus, a human‒computer combination allows the results of human thought to be translated into efficient processing of large amounts of data.

3번 지문(문항 번호 39번)

For hundreds of thousands of years our hunter‒gatherer ancestors could survive only by constantly communicating with one another through nonverbal cues. Developed over so much time, before the invention of language, that is how the human face became so expressive, and gestures so elaborate. We have a continual desire to communicate our feelings and yet at the same time the need to conceal them for proper social functioning. With these counterforces battling inside us, we cannot completely control what we communicate. Our real feelings continually leak out in the form of gestures, tones of voice, facial expressions, and posture. We are not trained, however, to pay attention to people's nonverbal cues. By sheer habit, we fixate on the words people say, while also thinking about what we'll say next. What this means is that we are using only a small percentage of the potential social skills we all possess.

4번 지문(문항 번호 40번)

Why do we help? One widely held view is that self‒interest underlies all human interactions, that our constant goal is to maximize rewards and minimize costs. Accountants call it cost‒benefit analysis. Philosophers call it utilitarianism. Social psychologists call it social exchange theory. If you are considering whether to donate blood, you may weigh the costs of doing so (time, discomfort, and anxiety) against the benefits (reduced guilt, social approval, and good feelings). If the rewards exceed the costs, you will help. Others believe that we help because we have been socialized to do so, through norms that prescribe how we ought to behave. Through socialization, we learn the reciprocity norm: the expectation that we should return help, not harm, to those who have helped us. In our relations with others of similar status, the reciprocity norm compels us to give (in favors, gifts, or social invitations) about as much as we receive.

1번 지문

Host: Good evening! Welcome to Dream Time. Every Friday, we invite four historical figures to share the wisdom that allowed them to make their remarkable achievements. Today, we have some great minds, including well-known inventors, a scholar, and the very first female Nobel prize winner joining us. Please welcome our guests! Let's start by meeting two world-famous inventors, Jang Yeongsil from the Joseon period and Thomas Edison from the United States of America of the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century. Both of you came up with a timely invention of necessary tools which brought a more convenient life to everyone. Mr. Jang, how did you do it?

Jang Yeongsil: However difficult a task may have been, I just kept working until I found the answer. Since most people in Joseon engaged in agriculture, it was crucial to know the exact time and seasonal variations. However, the Chinese calendar, which was used in Joseon at that time, was not consistent with the time and seasons of the Joseon. Thus I made such instruments as the honcheonui (a celestial globe) after observing the position of the Sun, the Moon, and the stars of the Joseon. I also kept thinking about how to make life easier for the people suffering from droughts and hunger, which was why I was able to invent the world's first rain measuring device, cheugugi, and Korea's first water-clock, jagyeongnu.

Host: Given all the amazing inventions, no wonder you are called a pioneer of practical science in fifteenth century in Asia and beyond.

Jang Yeongsil: One more thing. Though I may have come from humble beginnings, I won fame as an inventor since I never gave up. Keep trying to succeed for a good cause as I did, and you will contribute to the advancement of technology. Now, Mr. Edison, could you please share your secrets of success with us?

Thomas Edison: You know the secret: give it your all, every time! I have more than 2,300 patents worldwide, which is why people rush to judge that I am simply a genius. But, to be honest, I am not a genius. None of my inventions came by accident. I wasn't the one who first invented the electric light bulb, but I made the existing light bulb last long enough to be used practically. What it boils down to is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration.

Host: What do you mean by that?

Thomas Edison: It means you should go through trial and error until you get what you want. For example, in an attempt to find an affordable and efficient alternative for the material used in the previous bulb, I tried things from all over the world. I tried approximately 6,000 materials from various fibers like cotton to metals until I finally found the proper one from Japan, which enabled the bulb to stay alight more than 40 hours. In the beginning, some things might seem impossible for you to achieve. However, you have to remember to try just one more time. There is no replacement for hard work.

Host: It is highly desirable that people keep trying even after a failure. Thank you, Mr. Edison and Mr. Jang. We will keep the value of hard work in mind.

2번 지문

Now, the next guests are two people who kept their chin up in every hardship, Marie Curie and Jeong Yakyong. Please give them a warm welcome! Ms. Curie, you are the first and still the only female scientist ever who was awarded the Nobel prize in two different categories, physics and chemistry. Despite such outstanding success, I'm sure life was never easy for you, especially as an immigrant and a woman in the early 1900s.

Marie Curie: That's right. I had to fight against gender inequality. At that time, it was almost impossible for women to go to university. Thus I had to leave my country, Poland, for Paris, which allowed me to pursue further studies. Most male scientists in France hesitated to accept me as one of their colleagues. However, nothing ever stopped me from studying, even in a male-oriented society. As a result, I developed the theory of radioactivity and with my husband, Pierre, discovered the significant elements of radioactivity, polonium and radium.

Host: Ms. Curie, your passion for research led to the medical use of X-rays through the "Little Curies" during World War I. Could you tell me about that?

Marie Curie: The "Little Curies" were ambulances specially made for rapid operations on wounded soldiers. There was a need to use X-rays in surgery near the front lines so I equipped the medical vehicles with X-ray devices and drove the "Little Curies" to the battle fields. I believe it is imperative that people share a general responsibility for humanity.

《About X-rays》

X-rays were accidentally discovered by German physicist Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen in 1895. While experimenting with electrical currents, he noticed a type of radiation which could not be fully understood. So he named this "X-radiation."

3번 지문

Host: Had it not been for the "Little Curies," countless lives would have been lost. I imagine such deep consideration for others is one of the secrets that brought you success.

Mr. Jeong, you had been sent away for a total of nineteen years due to political and religious reasons. Even so, how come you ended up with such influential academic achievements?

Jeong Yakyong: I try to see the good in everything. Such a lengthy isolation gave me an opportunity to develop my silhak (practical learning) theories. Most of all, watching regular people's lives up close, I realized were it not for practical use, all knowledge would be meaningless.

Host: What you just said reminds me of what President Kennedy of the United States said in our program last week. “When written in Chinese, the word 'crisis' is composed of two characters. One represents danger and the other represents opportunity." So what else led you to success?

Jeong Yakyong: Actually, my genuine affection for the people of Joseon was what made it possible for me to have some meaningful achievements. I truly cared about them, which was why I wrote books emphasizing the practical use of knowledge and technology. In late Joseon, many people were suffering from poverty due to failing government policies and irresponsible officials. Moreover, many scholars thought little of the practical technologies which could have made life easier for those who were suffering. I thought it was highly desirable that people be treated equally regardless of their social status. With this in mind, I wrote guidelines for government officials and principles to reform all the social and political systems. I hope that answers your question.

Host: Thank you, Ms. Curie and Mr. Jeong, for sharing your wisdom, with which we can overcome the difficult situations we are facing now. Were it not for your pure desire to study and your deep consideration for others, none of us could enjoy what we have come to take for granted.

This is the end of this week's Dream Time. Thank you all.

4번 지문

A survey of college students on the secrets of success revealed that "luck" was believed to be the most crucial factor for success. Given a number of historical achievements that occurred by accident such as the discovery of X-rays, or the invention of the microwave, it is easy to think that luck has played a key role in success. In particular, when it comes to art, many people believe that a person needs to be lucky and have a natural gift for art. However, as soon as people look into the stories behind all the great successes, it is easy to see that attributing success in art to mere luck is jumping to conclusions. Stephen King, one of the best selling novelists of all time, once wrote "Don't wait for the muse." That is, to be a great writer, you cannot simply sit and wait to be inspired. Instead, you should do whatever keeps you motivated and inspired. It is also important to remember that many of the great artists such as Vincent van Gogh had unfortunate lives and did not get the proper credit for their works before their death. Even so, they did not stop performing their art. Therefore, if you think that the reason you failed was because you were simply unlucky, consider how you prepared. As the old saying goes, "Luck favors the prepared."

1번 지문

It was July 1960. I was on board a plane for Poland. Sitting next to an old lady, I sensed that she was a nice woman who must have had a good life. It was not a long flight from London to Warsaw but I wanted to start a conversation. We started to talk about the weather in London and Warsaw and the differences between the people. Talking pleasantly, the lady took out an old picture and showed it to me. "This is my son,” she said with a shy smile. The wide-eyed boy looked a bit sad. He looked about four or five years old. I couldn't help but ask how old he was now. She answered that he was twenty-five. Looking at the picture, her eyes soon welled up with tears. She began to tell me the story of her son.

2번 지문

Her story took place during Germany's occupation of Poland. It was a tragic time for the Poles, whose lives were turned upside down by the Germans. The city could get terrifying due to the German soldiers who suddenly appeared now and then. When they came, people would walk quickly away in fear, afraid that they would get arrested. Although many people faced the injustice and cruelty of the German soldiers, it was the Jews who faced the most incomprehensible discrimination of all.

The old lady's story began one day during World War II. Back then, she was a young lady who was walking down the street in a city in Poland. She happened to see a small child and his doting mother looking through a toy shop window. Then, the young boy dashed inside the store. Almost at the same time, a few German soldiers appeared around the corner. One of them held up his machine gun and ordered the boy's mom to stop. Then, he arrested her because she was Jewish. As the boy came out looking for his mom, he was puzzled because he could not understand what was going on. He screamed, "Mommy!" The threatening soldier glanced at the boy and then at the woman. The lady was terrified watching everything. The soldier barked at the mother, "Is that your son?" Avoiding her son's gaze, she looked straight into the lady's eyes. The boy's mother said with an empty expression, "No. That child is her son." Realizing what was going on, the lady quickly took the child in her arms. Then, the soldiers took away only the child's mother without another word. "Mommy! Mommy!" The child cried out in fear. Praying that the soldiers would not hear his desperate cries, the lady held on to the boy with all her might. He was too young to understand what was going on. But his mother, who was arrested, was afraid that the soldiers might take away her son, too. She did not turn around even once.

"After that day, I don't know what happened to the Jewish woman. This is my son, who became mine that day." The old lady was silent for a moment, and then she continued.

I took him home and named him Tom. I told my husband what had happened and initially, he was shocked but he said it was a sad fate that we couldn't ignore. During the first few days, Tom was frustrated and he kept crying. He also started to display aggressive behavior as he was confused. My husband and I felt sorry for him. I was worried but as the days passed by, the crying periods got shorter. Accepting him as our son, I tried my best to help him cope with the sudden loss he had to endure. Remembering how lovingly his mother looked at him outside the toy shop, I wanted to let him know that he was loved just as much in our home. Nevertheless, he had a tough time accepting me as his new mother. I cared for Tom as if he had always been my son. Sometimes he would respond to my questions or stories, and other times he would just keep quiet. This went on for a few months. It was not an easy time, but I knew that Tom was slowly warming up to me day by day.

My husband had a very hard time accepting Tom. His love for Tom didn't happen overnight. It was because Tom reminded him of our son who had passed away a long time earlier from an accident. One day, I encouraged my husband to play with Tom. He hesitated at first but I told him quietly but firmly, "You are supposed to be his father. All he needs right now is genuine affection." He eventually agreed and joined Tom, who was playing with blocks in the living room. While they were playing, Tom started to complain about the blocks. My husband, who was a traditional man, couldn't understand Tom's complaints and sternly said, "When I was your age, I didn't even have all of these blocks to play with. Is there anything you want that you don't have?" Tom's eyes welled up as soon as he heard this, but I was strangely relieved because I felt that my husband was finally becoming his real father.

One night when everyone was asleep, we suddenly heard Tom yelling, "Mommy! Mommy!" Both of us immediately ran to his room. He was pale and frightened, as if he had seen a ghost. He cried, "It was that dream again, the giant soldier taking away mommy!" He had that nightmare for quite a while. Then, before I could go and comfort him, my husband patted Tom gently on the shoulder, assuring him no one was going to take us away from him. We decided to stay with him that night as Tom continued to cry. However, after that night he never had that nightmare again. We took care of the boy as if we had always been his parents.

The next morning, all of us were on our way out. Before I walked towards the door, I turned back and saw Tom holding out his hands towards us. My husband and I looked at each other and we both smiled. I still remember how he squeezed back when I held his hand. That was the first day that our family held hands together. My husband and I were already in love with Tom, and from that moment, he started to open up to us and I think we started to truly accept each other as a family. It was the first time my mind wasn't clouded by doubt and I felt completely optimistic about our family's future. There is nothing you can solve that can't be solved with love. Ever since that day, we have been caring for and loving one another. A few years later, I asked Tom why he had held out his hand that morning after his last nightmare. Tom said that he could not forget the morning when he woke up and saw my husband and I tightly holding on to his hand.

I was absorbed in the story until we landed at the airport. We were both in tears and I admired how she had the courage on the day the German soldiers took away her son's mother. I thanked her for sharing her moving story with me and said, "You must be looking forward to spending time with your family.' She answered immediately, "More than anything in the world?' Saying goodbye to her, I wished her family good luck. As I passed through the gate, a handsome young man shouted, "Mom!" Smiling brightly, he ran to hug the old lady. Alongside her son, there was an old man who was delighted to see his wife return home. I could see Tom's birth mother in heaven smiling at the old couple and her son.

1번 지문

Ice is melting worldwide and the rise in the sea level has increased faster than people can imagine over the last century. Recently, floods and droughts are becoming more common. What is happening to our planet? As we already know, the phenomena are mostly caused by human activity, primarily the burning of fossil fuels that add carbon dioxide(CO₂) and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Scientists say that to avoid these dramatic changes in the climate, the world must cut greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80 percent by 2050, and eliminate them entirely by the end of the century. That's a huge challenge. In 2015, the world emitted 36 billion tons of carbon dioxide to produce energy. How can we reduce a number like 36 billion tones to zero?

2번 지문

Whenever I am faced with a problem, I turn to my favorite subject: math. What I needed was an equation that would help me understand how we could get our CO₂ gas emissions down to zero. Here's what I came up with. It might look complicated, but it's not. On the right side is the total amount of CO₂ we put in the atmosphere. This is what we need to get to zero. It's based on the four factors multiplied on the left side of the equation: the world's population(P); the services used by each person(S); the energy needed to provide each of those services(E); and finally, the carbon dioxide produced by that energy(C). As you learned in your math class, any number multiplied by zero will equal zero. So if we want to get to zero CO₂ emissions, then we need to get at least one of the four factors on the left to become zero. Let's go through them, one by one, and see what we get. The world's population(P) is currently 7 billion and expected to increase to 9 billion by 2050. No chance it'll ever be zero. Next is services. This is everything: food, clothing, heat, houses, cars, TVs, toothbrushes, music albums, etc. This number needs to go up in poor countries, so people can have lights, refrigerators, and other necessary appliances. So (S) can't be zero, either. Let's take a look at (E). That's the energy needed per service. There's some good news here. Fuel-efficient cars, LED light bulbs, and other inventions are making it possible to use energy more efficiently. These inventions may help cut down on energy use but unfortunately, they don't get us to zero. So none of the first three, population, services, and energy, are getting close to zero. That leaves the final factor (C), the amount of carbon dioxide emitted per each unit of energy.

Many of these ideas won't work, but that's okay. As Thomas Edison said, "I have not failed 10,000 times. I've just found 10,000 ways that will not work." To find thousands of ways that won't work, you first need to try thousands of different ideas. But energy research and the transition to new energy sources take a long time. It took four decades for oil to go from 5% of the world's energy supply to 25%. Today, renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power account for less than 5% of the world's energy. So we need to get started now. You may be wondering what you can do to help. First, it is required for everyone to be educated about this challenge. Many young people are already actively involved in climate and energy issues. I’m sure they could use more help. Second, if you're someone with some crazy-sounding ideas to solve our energy challenge, the world needs you. You might just have the answer. The challenge we face is bigger than many people imagine, but so is the opportunity. I'm so optimistic about your ability to make a miracle happen. I am certain the world will discover a clean energy breakthrough that will stop climate change and save our planet. The future of the world is in your hands! Thank you.

1번 지문(문항 번호 33번)

Sociologists have proven that people bring their own views and values to the culture they encounter; books, TV programs, movies, and music may affect everyone, but they affect different people in different ways. In a study, Neil Vidmar and Milton Rokeach showed episodes of the sitcomAll in the Familyto viewers with a range of different views on race. The show centers on a character named Archie Bunker, an intolerant bigot who often gets into fights with his more progressive family members. Vidmar and Rokeach found that viewers who didn't share Archie Bunker's views thought the show was very funny in the way it made fun of Archie's absurd racism ― in fact, this was the producers' intention. On the other hand, though, viewers who were themselves bigots thought Archie Bunker was the hero of the show and that the producers meant to make fun of his foolish family! This demonstrates why it's a mistake to assume that a certain cultural product will have the same effect on everyone.

2번 지문(문항 번호 34번)

The availability heuristic refers to a common mistake that our brains make by assuming that the instances or examples that come to mind easily are also the most important or prevalent. It shows that we make our decisions based on the recency of events. We often misjudge the frequency and magnitude of the events that have happened recently because of the limitations of our memories. According to Harvard professor, Max Bazerman, managers conducting performance appraisals often fall victim to the availability heuristic. The recency of events highly influences a supervisor's opinion during performance appraisals. Managers give more weight to performance during the three months prior to the evaluation than to the previous nine months of the evaluation period because the recent instances dominate their memories. The availability heuristic is influenced by the ease of recall or retrievability of information of some event. Ease of recall suggests that if something is more easily recalled in your memory, you think that it will occur with a high probability.

3번 지문(문항 번호 35번)

Marketing management is concerned not only with finding and increasing demand but also with changing or even reducing it. For example, Uluru (Ayers Rock) might have too many tourists wanting to climb it, and Daintree National Park in North Queensland can become overcrowded in the tourist season. Power companies sometimes have trouble meeting demand during peak usage periods. In these and other cases of excess demand, the needed marketing task, called demarketing, is to reduce demand temporarily or permanently. The aim of demarketing is not to completely destroy demand, but only to reduce or shift it to another time, or even another product. Thus, marketing management seeks to affect the level, timing, and nature of demand in a way that helps the organisation achieve its objectives.

4번 지문(문항 번호 36번)

The invention of the mechanical clock was influenced by monks who lived in monasteries that were the examples of order and routine. They had to keep accurate time so that monastery bells could be rung at regular intervals to announce the seven hours of the day reserved for prayer. Early clocks were nothing more than a weight tied to a rope wrapped around a revolving drum. Time was determined by watching the length of the weighted rope. The discovery of the pendulum in the seventeenth century led to the widespread use of clocks and enormous public clocks. Eventually, keeping time turned into serving time. People started to follow the mechanical time of clocks rather than their natural body time. They ate at meal time, rather than when they were hungry, and went to bed when it was time, rather than when they were sleepy. Even periodicals and fashions became "yearly." The world had become orderly.

1번 지문(문항 번호 20번)

We all have set patterns in life. We like to label ourselves as this or that and are quite proud of our opinions and beliefs. We all like to read a particular newspaper, watch the same sorts of TV programs or movies, go to the same sort of shops every time, eat the sort of food that suits us, and wear the same type of clothes. And all this is fine. But if we cut ourselves off from all other possibilities, we become boring, rigid, hardened― and thus likely to get knocked about a bit. You have to see life as a series of adventures. Each adventure is a chance to have fun, learn something, explore the world, expand your circle of friends and experience, and broaden your horizons. Shutting down to adventure means exactly that ―you are shut down.

2번 지문(문항 번호 21번)

Over the centuries various writers and thinkers, looking at humans from an outside perspective, have been struck by the theatrical quality of social life. The most famous quote expressing this comes from Shakespeare: "All the world's a stage, / And all the men and women merely players; / They have their exits and their entrances, / And one man in his time plays many parts." If the theater and actors were traditionally represented by the image of masks, writers such as Shakespeare are implying that all of us are constantly wearing masks. Some people are better actors than others. Evil types such as Iago in the play Othello are able to conceal their hostile intentions behind a friendly smile. Others are able to act with more confidence and bravado — they often become leaders. People with excellent acting skills can better navigate our complex social environments and get ahead.

3번 지문(문항 번호 22번)

Personal blind spots are areas that are visible to others but not to you. The developmental challenge of blind spots is that you don't know what you don't know. Like that area in the side mirror of your car where you can't see that truck in the lane next to you, personal blind spots can easily be overlooked because you are completely unaware of their presence. They can be equally dangerous as well. That truck you don't see? It's really there! So are your blind spots. Just because you don't see them, doesn't mean they can't run you over. This is where you need to enlist the help of others. You have to develop a crew of special people, people who are willing to hold up that mirror, who not only know you well enough to see that truck, but who also care enough about you to let you know that it's there.

4번 지문(문항 번호 23번)

A child whose behavior is out of control improves when clear limits on their behavior are set and enforced. However, parents must agree on where a limit will be set and how it will be enforced. The limit and the consequence of breaking the limit must be clearly presented to the child. Enforcement of the limit should be consistent and firm. Too many limits are difficult to learn and may spoil the normal development of autonomy. The limit must be reasonable in terms of the child's age, temperament, and developmental level. To be effective, both parents (and other adults in the home) must enforce limits. Otherwise, children may effectively split the parents and seek to test the limits with the more indulgent parent. In all situations, to be effective, punishment must be brief and linked directly to a behavior.
