The arts and aesthetics offer emotional connection to the full range of human experience. "The arts can be more than just sugar on the tongue," Anjan Chatterjee, a professor at the University of Pennsylvania, says. "In art, when there's something challenging, which can also be uncomfortable, this discomfort, if we're willing to engage with it, offers the possibility of some change, some transformation. That can also be a powerful aesthetic experience." The arts, in this way, become vehicles to contend with ideas and concepts that are difficult and uncomfortable otherwise. When Picasso painted his masterpiece Guernica in 1937, he captured the heartbreaking and cruel nature of war, and offered the world a way to consider the universal suffering caused by the Spanish Civil War. When Lorraine Hansberry wrote her play A Raisin in the Sun, she gave us a powerful story of people struggling with racism, discrimination, and the pursuit of the American dream while also offering a touching portrait of family life.

Imagine you opened your closet and 3,900 liters of water came rushing out. That's a lot of wasted water ─ nearly 40 full bathtubs! Of course, this couldn't really happen. But that's how much water it takes to produce a single cotton T-shirt. You might think cotton is an environmentally friendly material. But all that water is needed to grow, bleach, wash, and dye it, and to purify the water after using the fertilizers, pesticides, and chemicals. Even worse, the water most likely came from a water-deficient region where environmental protection policies are not being implemented. Instead, water is sold to the highest bidder ─ often manufacturers or large farms. As a result, rivers are drained until they are dry, which damages entire ecosystems. Although water is a renewable resource, it is not an unlimited one. Therefore, whenever we make a purchase, we must look beyond the price tag.

Related research and data suggest that daylight saving time (DST) interferes with our immune system. DST is the practice of setting clocks forward one hour during warmer months and back during colder months. The number of immune system cells that help fight infections falls when our body clock is out of sync, making us more vulnerable to illness. When clocks are set back in October, the sudden onset of early darkness casts a wider shadow. The abrupt change in light exposure affects the body's hormone production and cognitive function. Some people are strongly affected by seasonal affective disorder (SAD). This is related to light exposure patterns. As people experience the shortening of daylight hours, the body receives signals to decrease activity levels, which often leads to mood decline and low energy

When a project fails, the first impulse may be to seek out a critical mistake made in one of the processes. There is a strong temptation to identify a cause, whether it be an error or a poor decision, and label it the reason for the failure. However, many projects are doomed to fail before they even get underway, as the scope of their ambitions is simply too large. This type of critical error usually involves trying to do too much in too little time or attempting to do the impossible. In these cases, rather than evaluating processes, the project's planners need to take a further step back and take a long, hard look at what they're trying to achieve. If they find they have bitten off more than they can chew, then not even the most improved processes will bring success.

In big cities, many of the largest skyscrapers serve as spaces where people spend their days working to earn money. Most of these buildings are also home to restaurants and eateries, where these office workers can not only obtain the food and drinks they need to survive but also gather together to socialize and discuss their problems. It is evident that they are as natural as an anthill or a nest built by a bird. They were created by human beings, who are undeniably a part of nature, and they have been built from natural materials. People may complain that soil has been covered up by concrete, but there are plenty of natural places where there is no soil. In the world's big cities, the ecosystems that once existed have simply been replaced by urban ecosystems that serve the same function as ones that are considered to be more "natural."

It is difficult, if not impossible, to define the limits which reason should impose on the desire for wealth; for there is no absolute or definite amount of wealth which will satisfy a man. The amount is always relative, that is to say, just so much as will maintain the proportion between what he wants and what he gets; for to measure a man's happiness only by what he gets, and not also by what he expects to get, is as pointless as to try and express a fraction which shall have a numerator but no denominator. A man never feels the loss of things which it never occurs to him to ask for; he is just as happy without them; whilst another, who may have a hundred times as much, feels miserable because he has not got the one thing he wants. In fact, every man has a horizon of his own, and he will expect as much as he thinks it is possible for him to get.
