This suggests that obesity prevalence could be leveling out in the United States. Most interestingly, this coincides with government approval of weekly injectable weight-loss medications. Originally prescribed for type 2 diabetes, these medications also promote weight loss by mimicking an appetite-control hormone. In the same vein, a data expert wrote recently that the "dividends will be enormous" if the obesity crisis can be halted and eventually reversed by these drugs. He noted that, after smoking rates began falling, rates of lung cancer promptly peaked and then dropped dramatically, saving millions of lives. Likewise, if obesity curves descend, rates of heart disease and death will follow.

In other words, in order to "measure" the star mass, we measure other quantities and use those values, together with certain equations, to calculate the mass.
