1번 지문
When watching a movie, what viewers want to know is who the main characters are, what they want, what obstacles are standing in their way, what terrible things will happen if they fail, and what wonderful things will happen if they don't. If viewers don't receive satisfactory answers to these questions, it is highly unlikely that they will enjoy the movie. The same is true for brands. Consumers have questions about the products they buy, and if a company doesn't provide answers, they are likely to switch to another brand. If a company doesn't know what its customers want, what its products are used for, and what benefits its customers receive from its products, that company will not be able to thrive in a competitive marketplace. Whatever the situation, you must deliver a clear message to your customers.

A professor held up a cup of water and asked her students how much they thought the cup weighed. They yelled out a wide range of answers. She said, "From my perspective, the actual weight doesn't matter. How heavy this cup is depends on how long I hold it. If I just hold it up for a few seconds, it is not heavy at all. If I had to hold it up for an hour, however, it would quickly grow quite heavy. Although the actual weight of the cup doesn't change, my perception of its weight does." She went on to explain that stress and worry act in the same way. If you only think about your problems for a short time, nothing bad happens. But if you continually think about them, your stress and worry grow heavier and heavier until you are incapable of doing anything about them.

Distraction can be a greater obstacle to achieving your goals than you might realize. It not only throws you off track, it also makes it harder for you to get back to the task you were working on. As a result, it can prevent you from being fully productive when you finally do. To prevent distractions, experts consider it important to be aware of what typically distracts you and find ways to get rid of ─ or at least minimize ─ them before you start working. For example, if you know you will be tempted to look at your smartphone, put it in a place where you neither see nor hear it. Or if you're easily distracted by random noise, try putting in noise-canceling earplugs. By anticipating distractions before they occur, you can create the perfect working environment for yourself.

Dr. Joseph Bell was a professor of medicine at the University of Edinburgh. His students were amazed by his astonishing powers of observation. He seemed able to determine what patients did for a living, or what illness they might have, simply by glancing in their direction. One time he concluded that a patient had walked across a golf course on the way to the doctor, simply by looking at his shoes. One of Bell's students was particularly impressed with his teacher's abilities. He filled up notebooks with examples of what he called Bell's "eerie trick of spotting details." The student eventually went into practice himself outside London. When business was slow he filled his spare moments by writing stories. He took Dr. Bell's powers of perception, and gave them to a character of his own making ─ a character who made the young doctor, Arthur Conan Doyle, famous around the world. And so the professor who made even the most complex diagnosis seem "elementary" became the inspiration for fiction's greatest detective, Sherlock Holmes.
