Gifted children see the world through a lens that is simply different from that of most people. The brighter and more creative they are, the more likely they are to see things differently. Adults should remember that these children, however, are initially unaware that they see the world differently than how others do. Since they have grown up seeing the world through their eyes, their way of thinking is normal to them, and they believe that everyone should be able to see things the same way they do. A five-year-old gifted child is genuinely surprised to discover that other children in kindergarten do not know how to read. She has trouble believing it and may think the others just aren't trying. Or a 10-year-old who can so easily see two chess moves ahead simply cannot understand why his friend doesn't see the steps necessary to checkmate and win the game.
① Gifted children perceive the world through a fundamentally different perspective compared to most people around them.
② The more intelligent and creative gifted children are, the less distinctive their way of seeing things becomes.
③ Gifted children naturally assume that their own way of thinking is the standard that applies to everyone.
④ A gifted five-year-old finds it hard to believe that other kindergarten children have not yet learned to read.
⑤ A ten-year-old gifted chess player cannot comprehend why a friend fails to see the moves needed for checkmate.
지문은 "The brighter and more creative they are, the more likely they are to see things differently"라고 명시한다.
