A black hole is an object that contains an extremely large amount of mass in a very small area. This dense mass creates such a strong gravitational pull that nothing, including light, can escape it. John Wheeler, an American physicist, coined the term "black hole" in 1967. He also once said that "black holes have no hair." Wheeler was referring to the fact that the color, length and style of a person's hair provide us with details that can be used to identify and describe that person. So far, scientists have only been able to measure the mass, electronic charge, and angular momentum of individual black holes. This may, however, change in the near future, because an image of a black hole in the M87 galaxy was recently obtained, which is the first of its kind. It may soon provide scientists with more information about black holes than they ever had before.
① A black hole generates such a weak gravitational field that even light can easily pass through it.
② John Wheeler introduced the term 'black hole' in 1967 to describe an extremely dense object in space.
③ Wheeler's remark about black holes having 'no hair' was an analogy comparing identifying features of people to those of black holes.
④ Until recently, the only measurable properties of individual black holes were mass, electronic charge, and angular momentum.
⑤ A recently obtained image of a black hole in the M87 galaxy could provide new insights into the nature of black holes.
그는 또한 "블랙홀에는 머리카락이 없다(black holes have no hair)"고 말한 적이 있다.
지문은 "such a strong gravitational pull that nothing, including light, can escape it"이라고 명시한다.

"This dense mass creates such a strong gravitational pull that nothing, including light, can escape it."

All the lights had gone out, and there were no windows. Unable to see a thing, I ran down the stairs as quickly as I could, holding onto the rail. My legs felt weak and I couldn't breathe well, but I needed to get out of the building. When I finally reached the bottom floor, I collapsed. Lying on the floor in the darkness, I couldn't hear anything but the pounding of my heart. But then I heard a familiar voice calling my name. It was my mother! I tried to call back, but I couldn't catch my breath or move a muscle. Just then the door to the lobby opened and daylight flooded the stairs. All I could see was my mother's face as she reached down and helped me to my feet.

When people are negotiating, they often choose to see only what they want to see. They look over all of the information in front of them and then pick out the facts that confirm their prior perceptions. They also tend to disregard or misinterpret those that call their perceptions into question. But this can be a problem because a successful negotiator must be able to see the situation through the other person's eyes. This doesn't mean that you need to agree with their point of view. A better understanding of their thinking may lead you to revise your own views about the merits of a situation. Doing so has no cost, and it doesn't weaken your position. In fact, it often improves the negotiations, as it can reduce conflict and eliminate some of the disagreements between the two sides.

Approximately 60% of wild coffee species may go extinct in the near future, including Arabica, the most popular species of coffee. Most wild coffee plants are found in the jungles of Africa, where they face threats from habitat loss, climate change, pests and diseases. Furthermore, climate change is also threatening the health of many existing types of cultivated coffee. In Ethiopia, for example, the amount of land where Arabica coffee grows is expected to be reduced by up to 85% by 2080, and up to 60% of the land used for Ethiopia's coffee production could become unsuitable by the end of the century. If wild coffee species are wiped out, it will be difficult for the coffee industry to develop new types of coffee in the future. Coming up with new varieties is vital to the sustainability of the coffee industry, as these new species may be more resistant to disease and adverse climate conditions.

George Westinghouse was born in New York in 1846. His father was a machine shop owner, and Westinghouse showed a talent for machinery and business as a young man. In 1867 he invented a railroad braking system which revolutionized rail safety. After the Westinghouse system became widely accepted, he turned his attention to the electrical field. Despite the opposition of many people, including Thomas Edison, Westinghouse introduced an alternating current (AC) system for transmitting electricity long distances. In 1886, he established a new company, the Westinghouse Electric Company, which began producing the first large alternator, as well as transformers, turbine generators, and other types of electrical equipment. It also obtained patents for more than 400 inventions and worked on early power projects, including the construction of power stations. Westinghouse was a pioneer and leader of American industry until he was forced to step down due to the banking panic of 1907. He died in 1914 in New York City at age 67.

People often say, "You are what you eat." Although this makes sense, when you eat is just as critical. Experts say you should pay attention to your body's inner clock, which guides you to wake and sleep automatically, when planning your meals. By eating in tune with your body's inner clock, you will be giving your body fuel when it is active and allowing it to rest when it is tired. Ignoring your body's natural sleep rhythms by eating late at night can raise your blood sugar levels, which puts you at risk for diabetes. This is because the human body evolved to eat during the day, when the energy could be used for survival activities. Therefore, your body allows a hormone called insulin to distribute glucose to your cells during the day. At night when you're less active, your body's resistance to insulin is higher, so eating at night causes your body to simply store the calories as fat.

Every time we recall a past event, we are likely to make tiny mistakes or exaggerations. A recent experiment has shown that this often occurs when we tell the same story to different audiences. And these changes don't just affect how we tell the story to others ─ they also affect how we remember it. Participants were shown a video of two men fighting. Afterward, they had to describe the video to a stranger. Half of the participants were told that the stranger didn't like one of the men in the video. The others were told that the stranger liked this same man. The group that thought the stranger disliked the man described his behavior more negatively than the other group did. More importantly, when they were later asked about details of the video, they recalled the man's behavior as being worse than it actually was.

You might think that the ideal vacation involves spending all of your time lying on a beach or relaxing in a forest. But how about doing some good while you travel? You can do this if you take a volunteer vacation. A volunteer vacation, also referred to as a working vacation, gives you the opportunity to do volunteer work in a local community while traveling. There is a need for different types of volunteers everywhere. For example, in countries that have weak education systems, you can spend some time teaching local kids. Or if you're an animal lover, you can combine a whale-watching trip with volunteer work that protects the habitats of sea turtles. To learn more about taking a volunteer vacation, including the ones mentioned above, you can contact nearby charities in your area. There are also some organizations that specialize in organizing volunteer vacations.
